ISSUES WE FACE

The most important part of my campaign is ensuring accountability in the Student Association for everyone who is a part of it. Fundamentally, there needs to be consequences for those who express bigotry–both to ensure the safety and comfort of all students at Rice, and to make sure that we grow as students in our knowledge of the world. As SA President, I will ensure that voting records, audio recordings, and meeting notes are available for students to read, giving them a clear opportunity to keep their senators and presidents accountable for their actions and words. 
Additionally, I will endeavor to create an Accountability and Allyship committee that will hold members of the SA and Senate participants accountable for their actions and words. Students, using the knowledge they gain from the accessible notes and records, would be able to submit complaints to the committee if they believe their senator or representative was acting or speaking in a bigoted fashion. The committee would be given a set of guidelines to ensure a fair and transparent process by which they can determine whether an act of bigotry has taken place, and assign diversity training and seminars to ensure that such an action would not take place again. Not only would this ensure direct accountability for bigotry in the SA, but it would also give people a path forward for bettering themselves.
